Sent to Earth where humanity has been gone for thousands of years, Robert, a genetic scientist, discovers on arrival that he is in fact the last human. What can he do apart from go crazy?
Planet Earth. 500 000 years in the future. Robert should have found his wife and repopulated the world. She unfortunately arrived 100 years before him, and old age took her away well before Robert landed.
Worried for his mental health, the leaders of the faraway Human Era send Alpha, a psycho-bot or robot psychologist, to find him and watch over him. She understands quickly that Robert has lost his mind and faith, and that he’s on a grotesque mission to conquer the forest, where he intends to rule all by himself.
As night falls, the only hope is recognizing and accepting the inevitable conflict between man, machine and nature. A story that discusses certain post-humanist assumptions which dominate a large part of contemporary thought.
