When the German tanks get into Paris, this moment marks the end of the carefree youth of Sarah, André and Louis. The three inseparable friends will each respond profoundly, and each in a different way, as they struggle to make sense of a world they no longer recognize. Sarah, a student of German Jewish background, decides to stay in Paris and do what she can to resist. André, a patriotic idealist, heads to London to join General de Gaulle after his Appeal of June 18th. The charming and opportunistic Louis quickly comes to understand the workings of the new system, and decides to turn them to his best advantage.
