With his series “The Dream,” Jean Dufaux aims to create a fresco of contemporary characters living in America, a country where the fantasy of an idyllic, innovative, and dynamic society has often brought out the worst. Each volume is dedicated to one of his unique characters: an empty‐headed fashion victim, a yuppie turned vagabond, country folk in the most remote corners of the Midwest, and, like in this first book, a stripper in a rough suburb of San Francisco. The witness to all this is Megan, a casting director working for the IAP, a Hollywood movie production company. Her risky mission: to bring out the potential actor hidden deep in each and every one of these characters.
